This cute little boy has a milk allergy. He has handled it so well. I wouldn't have known anything was wrong but he has had a little bit of blood in his poops. Ewww, I know. I tried not to freak out but when it appeared in his dipe for the third time in a month I figured it warranted a trip to the doc. We figured out that he has a sensitivity to milk proteins and that I need to cut out basic dairy to start with. So that pretty much means cutting out my most FAVORITE foods. Milk, yogurt, cheese, cottage cheese, cheese of any and every kind, ice cream, sour cream...you name it.
Nolan's weight went from the 60th percentile down to the 30th. Eeeek. Doc didn't like that and said it most likely has to do with the allergy. Doc also told me to push bottles of formula to get his weight up but the kid will NOT take a bottle. I tried rice cereal and he wasn't having that either. Doc also mentioned going ahead and trying some first stage foods to get his weight back up. Sooo we tried banana tonight and the kid LOVED it. I hate giving him food this early but I am worried about his weight and I am trying to do what the doc says. I rarely take his recommendations (vaccinations, flouride, frenulectomy, etc) to heart so I figured that I better do it this time!
Here's to my new dairy free diet! Maybe it will help me shed my last few stubborn pounds, fingers crossed. Hello Almond Milk, goodbye cheese! I have secretly always wanted to remove dairy from my diet so we will see how it goes.
Any tips are welcome! I have no idea what to eat now! Aghh.

I found these bottles at Babies R Us called Tommee Tippee. The baby latches on like breastfeeding, and it is supposed to be closest to the real thing. You may want to try those. Caden had a milk allergy for a while. I ate sherbert instead of ice cream. :) You don't realize how many things have dairy until you can't eat it. You can do it though!
You poor thing! Dairy is in all of my favorite foods too! Somehow you'll survive! Good luck!
aww :( That's horrible! I can't imagine cutting out all that good stuff!! The doc thought Henry might have a milk allergy but when I took him in the other day his weight was still up so she said it was very unlikely he had one. And that's why she's just calling it colic. BUT she did say to start some rice cereal next month b/c that might help with his uncomfortable tummy. 3 months seems sooo early to me but I guess every kid is different. I will probably start him on solids at 5 months.
ugh! Good luck... dairy is one of my favs too! Hopefully Nolan will grow out of this allergy!
Poor Nolan, and poor Julie!! That is no fun at all... Hope you don't go hungry!
Almond milk actually isn't so bad. We have some friends who had the same thing with their little girl. They got very creative with their cooking:)
I wish I could even begin to give you tips on how to take out dairy. Those are my fav foods, too! Good luck!! It's probably good to listen to the doc, at least once in a while. :)
