I guess I jinxed myself. I didn't want Griff to get real stitches and I avoided it when he fell last Monday and now here we are with some real stitches :( The little cut that had some liquid stitches on it has spread to a one inch gash with 12 real stitches. Here's what happened....We have been hanging out at Grammy and Grampy's a lot for the holidays and Griff is obsessed with the stairs at their house. So, I was making my one millionth trip up the stairs trailing VERY close behind him and I turned around for 2 seconds and he came crashing down. He fell down one little step and landed right on my feet but his head slammed the wall. Of course it was the side that had the little cut and the half peeled off liquid stitches. It bled immediately, he cried, I cried and flipped out of course. I was more angry than anything. I hate seeing my kid get hurt and I was so sick and tired of following him up and down the stairs. So, when he fell all my frustration came out with it! So, the cut split back open and spread. The once little cut I was so worried about was now a whole lot bigger. I knew Griff would need to go to the ER and finally get real stitches. Off we went. Kason insisted on Urgent Care because it is cheaper (what a lovely thing to happen right after Christmas, huh?) but they said it was too deep and too large for them to treat there. We then jumped back in the car and headed to the ER. The ER staff saw that he was bleeding and I was crying so they got us right in. Of course through all of this Griff was his cute, happy little self even with blood dripping in his eye. They checked us in and we headed back to a room and they had us put Griff on a bed. The doctor and nurse examined his wound and told us that is was deep and large so he would need to be put to sleep and have it stitched up. They hooked him up to an EKG machine (I think that is what that was????) and they put a few other monitors on. One on his foot, one on his arm plus the sticky things with wires coming out of them on his chest. He liked it at first and then became somewhat annoyed. I left the room as they gave him the shot to knock him out. I hate shots so I wasn't sticking around. That was Griff's first shot besides the Vitamin K from when he was born. I came back in and he was out, it was so sad to see :( They put him on oxygen, then trimmed up the gash with some scissors (it was jagged and uneven) and then stitched him up. They wanted to do inside and outside stitches but because half of the wound was from Monday they couldn't do the inside stitches. It took about 30 minutes or so to do that and then we waited for him to wake up. When he woke up he was grunting and groaning and super combative. It was awful. We could barely hold him down on the bed. Kase and I had to take turns because it was wearing us out! He wouldn't let us hold him, he just kept flailing around. He finally came around and the nurses gave us a bottle to see if he could drink. He slugged it down and was back to normal. We left the hospital, went to Walgreen's for Motrin and an antibiotic and then off to bed we went. Griff slept in this morning and woke up as happy as can be, thank goodness. He has had a pretty good day. He has fallen once and bumped his stitches so we had more blood today. I swear this cut is going to just keep spreading and wrap around his whole head....oh well. He's a boy, what do ya do?
