July OR September? September Please.

I had quite the scary and miserable night at Labor and Delivery. Get ready for a long and complicated story! So, around 6pm Tuesday night I was getting ready to leave the house for a girls night out. I wasn't feeling very good but not sick enough to cancel at the last minute so I went ahead to meet my girlfriends for dinner and a movie. I ate a yummy salad and then we headed to the theater. I remember still feeling strange and kind of sick but I got through the movie just fine. I had a number of contractions while I was sitting there but nothing painful enough to make me worry. When I walked out of the theater and walked to my car I felt SO weird. I almost didn't feel like myself and I felt quite disoriented. When I got home I sat down and thought about why I felt so weird. Was I sick? What was wrong with me? I had some tummy "issues" and then sat down again to see how I felt after taking care of that. I started to feel worse and my contractions were coming on consistently and I also had a dull backache. By then I was a little nervous. I thought about going to L and D but I didn't want to be that silly girl who goes to the hospital and ends up with gas or heartburn. I decided after a few more minutes that I was feeling pretty bad so I told Kason I was going to drive to L and D just to get looked at. As soon as I got there and got hooked up to monitors the throwing up started and I was having good, hard contractions at 2-3 minutes apart. They were so strong that I couldn't talk through them and they put me to tears. The nurses started to scurry a bit more and gave me a shot in the arm to try and stop the contractions. It was nuts being in actual, painful labor! The shot slowed the contractions down so they decided to do an IV. I was so sick and dehydrated (and I have CRAPPY veins) that between the two nurses with me, they tried to get an IV in me 5 times and blew through all of my veins. It was so painful! They tried EVERYWHERE too, even the really sensitive spots. They ended up calling in an Anesthesiologist to do it. He numbed up the spot he wanted to try with yet another needle poke (at this point I had been poked like 7 times!) He said he needed to use numbing medication because he thought he would have to dig for a vein and he did. Thankfully it didn't hurt and he finally got the IV into a tiny little vein on the top of my hand. They tried to draw some blood though the IV for labs but no blood wanted to come out, too dehydrated. So then they had to call the labs people to come and poke me once again to draw some blood. It was awful! They took urine and drew blood finally and all the while I am still having some pretty good contractions so I needed a shot in the other arm in an attempt to stop them once again. My labs came back showing that my white blood cell count was high and my Potassium was scary low. They admitted me right away and put me in a room to start some Potassium which hurt terribly going through my IV. It felt like my arm was breaking, it was horrible! All night long I continued having contractions but thankfully I wasn't dilating and the fetal cells test that the nurses did (OUCH) came back negative so it looked like Nolan was staying in. I had another bout of hard contractions every 3 minutes again the next morning so they tried a stronger drug to stop them and then continued to keep giving me that medication every six hours. The doctor came in the morning and chatted with me about what was going on. It is complicated but basically I had some kind of bug that put me into labor and zapped my Potassium. Then he listened to my heart and it was beating way too fast so he ordered an EKG. I guess when you Potassium gets that low it can cause an Arrhythmia. I swear it was one thing after another in there! The EKG came back fine and as the day progressed my contractions got lighter and I was feeling better so I got to go home! I have to watch every little thing closely and I know the symptoms to watch for that will send me right back to L and D. Let's HOPE not! I honestly think that birthing Nolan will be a walk in the park after my lovely hospital stay. Please baby Nolan, stay in there and cook a little longer :) Oh, and thank goodness for double insurance, phew.

Poor Jules! That is so scary! I ended up in L&D with a stomach bug when I was preggo with Bryton- Luckily it was only a couple weeks early, so wasn't quite as scary, but still awful. I hope you stay better and baby Nolan comes when he is supposed to!
